Which Is Better for You: A Full Facelift or a Mini Facelift?

A woman observes age-related changes in the mirror

Many men and women have a lot of questions as they consider facial rejuvenation, and more specifically, a facelift. And rightly so—there are a lot of different procedures and each garner different results. One of the most popular questions our patients ask at New Look New Life Cosmetic Surgical Arts® is about the differences between a full facelift and a mini facelift.

Both a full and mini facelift correct age-related change by addressing jowls, sagging skin around the cheeks, and neck laxity. Depending on your needs and how you have aged, either a full or mini-facelift has the power to turn back the hands of time and give the face a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.

Will a Full Facelift Have You Looking Your Best?

A full or traditional facelift has become somewhat of the gold standard when it comes to total facial rejuvenation. Traditionally, a full facelift addresses the lower and mid parts of the face including the under eyes, cheeks, chin, and jowls. The skin is gently lifted and delicately tightened before any excess skin is carefully trimmed away. To better enhance the results and add volume to a gaunt appearance, Dr. Karlinsky is able to remove, shift, or transfer fat to areas such as the under eyes and cheeks.

The best candidates for a mini facelift include:

  1. A full facelift is best for those with noticeable signs of aging including sagging, loose skin, and volume loss

  2. While there is no age limit when it comes to cosmetic surgery, most full facelift patients are in there 50s and 60s

  3. A full facelift is the right choice those wanting their face to appear younger, fuller, tighter, and smoother.

Because general anesthesia is used, Dr. Karlinsky can access and move the skin, tissue, and muscle to a greater extent. Deeper tissue tightening not only makes for a more complete transformation but also longer lasting results.

Is a Mini Facelift Your Best Bet?

A mini facelift is a less invasive alternative to a full facelift and is best for patients with minimal signs of aging who do not need the full rejuvenation of a traditional facelift. Using a small, strategically placed incision, a mini facelift corrects minor sagging skin in the lower face, jaw, and neck.

The best candidates for a mini facelift include:

  1. A mini facelift is most effective for individuals with minimal signs of aging

  2. Typically, we have found that younger men and women in their late 40s to early 50s who want to fight the earliest signs of facial aging are the most likely to benefit from a mini facelift

  3. A mini facelift is often the right choice for those who are would like to look younger in a subtler fashion but are not yet ready for dramatic improvement that a full facelift provides.

Performed under local anesthesia, a mini facelift is a shorter surgical procedure that requires far less downtime and recovery. A mini facelift can also be more cost-effective—starting at only $6000 at New Look New Life’s Manhattan and Westchester locations.
