An incision is made in the natural fold of your upper eyelid (so it is hidden when the eye is open), and fat pockets are repositioned or removed. Excess skin is then trimmed, and the incisions are closed with removable sutures. The removal of fatty tissue and skin creates a lifting effect. What Is Lower Blepharoplasty? Lower blepharoplasty reduces the appearance of puffiness and bags beneath the eyes to allow for a more awake and revitalized appearance. Lower blepharoplasty is performed under general anesthesia at our surgical center. An incision is made just below the lower lash line through which excess skin, fatty tissues, and muscles are repositioned or removed. The incisions are then closed with removable sutures. If a patient only requires the removal and/or repositioning of excess fat, the incision can be made within the lower lid (which eliminates external scarring); however, this technique does not allow for the removal of excess skin. Should I Combine My Eyelid Surgery With Facelift Surgery? Eyelid surgery (and even the combination of eyelid surgery and brow lift surgery) only addresses the upper portion of the face. While the eyes are often the first area to experience significant aging, it is not the only area. Combining eyelid surgery with facelift surgery targets fine lines, wrinkles, sagging tissues, and excess skin all over the face to maintain balance and harmony. What Will My Blepharoplasty Recovery Be Like? Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure, and you can return home after a short rest in our comfortable recovery suite. Because this procedure requires anesthesia, you will need assistance getting home and performing all household chores for the first day or so. You should plan to rest comfortably at home for up to a week. During this time, you should rest with your head elevated (for blood circulation) and not participate in any activities that will overstress your eyes, such as watching extended periods of television. You will experience some swelling and bruising around the eyes following your blepharoplasty. This swelling may cause a temporary blurring of vision, but this should resolve as the swelling subsides. Eye drops can be used to help resolve any dryness or itching of the eyes. Most blepharoplasty patients return to work and their regular day-to-day activities within seven to 10 days but should avoid strenuous physical activities for at least. Blepharoplasty is performed under local or general anesthesia to prevent any pain. You may develop some bruising, swelling, tenderness, and tightness afterward. Any discomfort can be lessened with prescribed or over-the-counter medication. Most post-operative discomfort remedies itself within a few days. Will My Blepharoplasty Leave Scars? While all surgical incisions will result in scarring, our surgeons pay meticulous attention to the placement of the incisions to help ensure that the residual scars are hidden in the skin folds and can be concealed with makeup. How should I prepare for my blepharoplasty?
